Obituary of Esther Moore

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Esther Harvel Moore, 84, was called home by the Lord on September 16, 2011. She was surrounded in love by her family and friends. Born in Columbia, SC on July 20, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Lonnie Braxton Harvel and Vellie Hurley Harvel. Mrs. Moore was a graduate of Columbia High School and after graduation was employed by Post Engineers at Fort Jackson. She met and married Willis C "Bill" Moore and together they raised three children. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Mrs. Moore was a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church and a devoted servant of the Lord. She taught Sunday School and directed Vacation Bible School for many years but she was happiest in her role as wife, mother and friend. Mrs. Moore never met a stranger, and was beloved by all. She was a warm and loving woman who had a kind and gentle heart and was a forever friend. She touched so many lives in a positive way. Mrs. Moore always had a smile on her face and caring words from her heart for all. Mrs. Moore is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Willis C. "Bill" Moore, Jr.; sons, Willis C. "Billy" Moore III (Debbie) of Charlotte, NC and Robert B. "Bobby" Moore (Wendy) of Prosperity, SC and a daughter, Barbara M. Reiling (David) of Los Altos, CA.; grandchildren, Ashley M. Hunt (Jeff) of Charlotte, NC, Emily M. Welchman (John) of Greensboro, NC, Amanda B. and Andrew F. Reiling of Los Altos, CA; great-grandchildren, Sophie G. and William G. Hunt and John Gavin Welchman; a sister-in-law, Laura R. Harvel of Columbia, SC and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by brothers, Arthur, Lonnie, Alvin, and Lester Harvel and sister-in-law, Kathryn M Harvel. A graveside funeral service for Esther Harvel Moore, 84, of Columbia, will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, September 19, 2011, at Greenlawn Memorial Park with a visitation immediately following the graveside service at Calvary Baptist Church 500 S. Kilbourne Road, Columbia, SC. Officiating will be Rev. Richard Ryals and Al Russ. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorials be made to Calvary Baptist Church where Mrs. Moore devoted her time, love and energy for many years. The family wishes to thank the staff at Palmetto Health Baptist, Palmetto Pulmonary, Columbia Medical Group, South Carolina Oncology Associates, Palmetto Health Hospice, and the many doctors and nurses for the love and care shown to Mrs. Moore.
