Obituary of Jo Holland Shaw

WEST COLUMBIA: Funeral services for Jo Anne Holland Shaw, 80, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2012, in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Officiating will be Reverend Dr. Rocky Purvis. Interment will follow at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday evening at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Box 1178, Greenwood, SC 29648. Mrs. Shaw, wife of the late Dozier C. Shaw, Jr., for 55 years, passed away Thursday, July 19, 2012. Born in Greenville, SC, she was the daughter of the late Wade Edward Holland, Jr. and the late Memory Rumsey Holland. She was a 1954 cum laude graduate of Furman University where she was a member of Kappa Delta Epsilon, National Education Sorority. For two years she taught English and French in Great Falls, SC, where she also served as organist for Mount Dearborn United Methodist Church. She also taught at Dentsville and Spring Valley High Schools in Columbia, retiring after thirty years of service. Mrs. Shaw was a long time member of Northside Baptist Church of Lexington, SC and where she was a member of the Joyful Grace Life Group and former member of the Senior Saints Singers. She was also a former member of the Lexington County Family and Community Leaders. For two years in the 1970's she was a Den leader of a group of Cub Scouts sponsored by Providence Presbyterian Church of West Columbia, SC. Mrs. Shaw is survived by one son, Dozier Cleveland Shaw, III (Christy) of Cayce; two grandchildren, Jacob Dozier Shaw and Holland Elizabeth Shaw; also many loving and devoted nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Edna H. Dameron and Jenny H. Hunnicutt; and one brother, Wade E. Holland, Jr.
