Obituary of Stanley Smith

WEST COLUMBIA: Stanley Smith, 75, passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2012. He graduated from Thetford Academy in Vermont, where he enjoyed playing basketball. After high school graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He later worked for NOAA (National Weather Service) and enjoyed a second career as a licensed electrician. He thoroughly enjoyed doing electrical work and he passed that knowledge down to his sons. He was a Boy Scout Troop leader in Huntington, WV. He was very active at the Tri-City leisure Center in West Columbia and was a member at Northside Baptist Church. He was a very loving husband and father who adored his family, and a devoted Christian who loved the Lord. Survivors include his mother, Marion Stanley Smith of Hartford,VT; his loving wife, Glenna Mae Maynard Smith of Huntington, WV; daughters, Michelle Rusk (Lee) of Charlotte, NC, Karolyn Smith of Aurora, CO and Lucinda Harshman of Denver, CO; sons, Charles Edward Hoback (Lari) of Eastover, Joseph Brian Hoback (Melissa) of Flatwoods, KY, Virgil David Hoback (Brittany) of Ashland, KY, Joshua Aaron Smith (Stephanie) of West Columbia and Craig Curtis Smith (Shirley) of Sparks, NV; sisters, Norma Tuttle (Brian) and Joan Laro (Philip) all of White River Junction, VT; brothers, Richard Smith (Mary Ellen) of Wilton, NH, Larry Smith of Wilder, VT and Wilfred Smith (Pamela) of Fredericksburg, VA; fourteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Arthur Smith, son-in-law, Clint Harshman and sister-in-law, Roberta Smith. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Northside Baptist Church (in memory of Stan Smith), 1339 Leaphart St., West Columbia, SC 29169. The family will receive friends at the Northside Family Life Center, Tuesday, November 20, 2012, from 5-6 p.m. with a Celebration of Life to follow at 6 p.m. officiated by Steven Allen. Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington is assisting the family.
