Obituary of Janice Lee

Funeral services for Janice Gartman Lee, 69, formerly of West Columbia will be held at 11:00am Saturday, November 24, 2012 at St. David Lutheran Church; Rev. James E. Laurence will be officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, November 23, 2012 from 6-8pm at Thompson Funeral Home, Lexington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. David Lutheran Church, 132 Saint David Church Road, West Columbia, SC 29170. The family has entrusted Thompson Funeral Home, Lexington with the arrangements. Mrs. Lee passed away Monday, November 19, 2012. Born on March 13, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Henry Elton LaFayette Gartman and Thelma Miller Gartman. Mrs. Lee worked for Lexington 2 School District from 1986-2006 where she taught Chemistry and Physics at Brookland-Cayce High School. She was nationally certified in Physics. She was a member of the Daughters of American Revolution and served as past Regent, Daughters of the War of 1812 and Colonial Dames. She was a charter member of the Lexington Genealogical Association and editor of their magazine "The Exchange" for 30 years. She was also a member of the Girl Scouts of America and started the program at St. David Lutheran Church. Surviving are her daughters, Bonny Lee Clayborn (Clarence E) of Gaston, SC, Lisa Lee Schultz of Fuquay-Varina, NC, Holly Lee Gilliam of Prosperity, SC and Vicky Lee Bowers (Chris) of Irmo, SC; 9 grandchildren; 1 grandson-in-law. In addition to her parents and husband, Raymond Baron Lee, she was predeceased by her brothers, George Martin Gartman and Elton R. Gartman
