It is with great sadness that I write this note. Janice was so very helpful and such a great person and member of our Colonial Dames XVII Century organization. She was on my board as Registrar and the work she did was remarkable and will help us in the future for many many years. She has saved our records and helped me personally in my job as State President. My deepest sympathy to the family. Pat Gallahorn, President, SC Colonial Dames XVIIC

How appropriate that our beloved Janice spent Thanksgiving in Heaven but she left behind hundreds of ladies, gentlemen & children who should give thanks daily for the family research she did for us. She brought so much happiness and respect for our family heritage to so many. She was light and laughter to me for our years of friendship. I will always give thanks for those times she encouraged me. She was generous beyond belief with her knowledge and wisdom but most of all, she gave joy. I count myself fortunate for knowing her. Her devotion to veterans and active military set the mark impossibly high for all of us. She went in the dark hours after midnight to give all the soldiers a slice of her homemake pound cake or cookies and a hug before they flew out to war in the Middle East. She crocheted hundreds of warm hats for them too. She went to the VA Hospital every holiday and took afghans she had made and cards to cheer them. She was light and laughter to them too--more than we brunettes because she was the quintessential blonde! Yep, she made those pitiful veterans smile...they were surely waiting for her at the gates of Heaven on Monday. There is a tombstone at First Presbyterian Church in downtown Columbia with this inscription that describes Janice: "To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die."
