Obituary of Donald McNeish

WEST COLUMBIA: Memorial service for Donald Raymond McNeish, 89, will be held at 1pm Saturday, December 22, 2012 at St. Peters Catholic Church; Msgr. Leigh Lehocky officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, December 21, 2012 from 5-7pm at Still Hopes Episcopal Home, 1 Still Hopes Drive West Columbia, SC 29169. Memorials may be made to Harvest Hope, 2220 Shop Road Columbia SC 29201. Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia is in charge of handling the arrangements. Mr. McNeish passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2012. Born on October 30, 1923, in Bergenfield, NJ he was the son of the late John Jerome McNeish and Theresa Weis Mc Neish. He was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church and retired from Uniroyal. Donald served his country as a lieutenant in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean conflict. He worked for Uniroyal for more than 30 years and retired as company Vice President in 1986. During his retirement he volunteered for the AIDS Benefit Foundation of South Carolina and served on the Washington Theological Union board of directors. He also enjoyed working with the children in his daughter's kindergarten class at Polo Road Elementary School. And he often volunteered to assist others at Still Hopes, where he lived for the last several years. He will be greatly missed by family and friends, including his many friends at Still Hopes. Surviving are his daughters, Lorraine Kuhlen of Cayce, SC, Anne McNeish of Baltimore, MD, Mary Stengel (Thomas) of Baltimore, MD; sons, Thomas McNeish (Coleen) and James McNeish (Edith) all of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Natalie Taylor, Sarah Guthrie, Isabelle McNeish, Victoria McNeish, Patrick Stengel, Nicholas Stengel, Molly ScalJon, Theresa Brooks, Ethan Allen, Connor Mc Neish; great-grandson, Brian Guthrie Taylor. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife, Jane Fostel McNeish.
