Obituary of Bess Chambers

LEXINGTON: Graveside service for Bess Chambers, 97, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013, in Woodridge Memorial Park. Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington is assisting the family. Mrs. Chambers, widow of William Turner Chambers, passed away Tuesday, March, 5, 2013. Born September 4, 1915, in Amherstdale,WV, she was a daughter of the late Charles A. Martin, M.D. and Beulah Thrash Martin. Mrs. Chambers attended Marshall University. She moved to Lexington, SC in 1982 and was a well respected piano teacher; and then moved to Florida in August of 2003. Mrs. Chambers taught piano for 75 years, from 1933 until 2008. Survivors include: sisters, Shirley M. Howard, M.D., Mrs. Maxine Waugh and her children, Barbara, Jim, Betsy and Meg; niece, Susan Askren (Carter) and children, Eliana and Emma; daughter-in-law, Loretta Boyd; grandchildren, William T. "Bill" Chambers, III, (Jen), Jill Lang (Cott), and Lucy, Mina, Phoebe and Wyatt, Laura Steen (John) and Hailey, Owen and Molly. Mrs. Chambers was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and son, William Turner Chambers, Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, 3223 Sunset Blvd., Ste. 100, West Columbia, SC 29169.
