Obituary of James Milton Freeman

Eastover—Funeral services for James M. Freeman, Jr., 66, of Eastover, will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, August 30, 2013 at Wedgefield Presbyterian Church, 46 Presbyterian Drive, Wedgefield, SC 29168. Officiating will be Rev. Jody P. Foster. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Thompson Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel. Memorials may be made to Children's Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 3608 Landmark Drive, Ste. C, Columbia, SC 29204. Mr. Freeman, beloved husband of Cheryl Freeman, passed away Sunday, August 25, 2013. Jimmy was born in Columbia on February 15, 1947, to Lucy Clements Freeman and the late James M. Freeman, Sr. Jimmy finished Carlisle Military Academy, Bamberg, SC class of 1965 and attended Palmer Business School. During a long career with the South Carolina Army National Guard, Jimmy completed special training in Washington, D.C. to become Chief Warrant Officer Five, one of only three in South Carolina. He served with STARC Headquarters at the Bluff Road Armory for 37 years. He was a member and Elder at Wedgefield Presbyterian Church. Jimmy will always be remembered as a wonderful son, husband, brother, father and Pee-Paw as well as a friend to so many others. Jimmy enjoyed spending time with his three children, five grandchildren and friends square dancing. Surviving are his beloved wife, Cheryl Priest Freeman; mother, Lucy Clements Freeman; son, James M. Freeman, III; daughters, Sharon Smith and husband Jamie and Rebecca Gilmer and husband Jamie; grandchildren, Garrett, Grant, Tinsley, Sam and Carson; sister, Carol Talbert and husband Tom; brother, John Freeman and wife Alice; stepson Douglas Brewer and wife Suzanne.
