Obituary of Leeverne B. Pound

SOUTH CONGAREE—Funeral services for Leeverne B. Pound, 64, of South Congaree, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 5, 2014 at Thompson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC 29073. Pastor Bill Harmon will officiate. Burial will be private. The family will greet friends from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2014 at the funeral home. Mrs. Pound, beloved wife of 44 years to Ronnie L. Pound, passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2014. Born in Columbia, she was a daughter of Sara Snelgrove Backman and the late James F. Backman, Sr. She was a lifetime area resident and a member of West Columbia First Church of the Nazarene. Leeverne retired from Wachovia. She was a loving and giving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and sister who bravely fought cancer for 20 years. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and giving back to others. Surviving are her husband, Ronnie L. Pound of South Congaree; mother, Sara Backman of West Columbia; three grandchildren, Rebekah, Jared and Elizabeth Kelly; sister, Barbara A. Ballard (James L.) of Lexington; brother, Marvin W. "Billy" Backman (Linda) of Columbia; sister-in-law, Gloria Murphy; brothers-in-law, Tony Pound (Sandy) and Mike Pound; son-in-law, Scott Kelly (Amanda) of Lexington; aunt, Joyce Backman; special cousin, Tommy Backman (Susan) of Gaston and a large and loving extended family. She was preceded in death by her father, and her daughter, Rhonda L. Kelly; brother, James F. Backman, Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210 or West Columbia First Church of the Nazarene, 350 Wattling Road, West Columbia, SC 29169.
