"To live content with small means; to seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than fashion; to be worthy, not respectable, and wealthy, not rich; to study hard, think quietly, talk gently, act frankly; to listen to stars and birds, to babes and sages, with open heart; to bear all cheerfully, do all bravely, await occasions, hurry never. In a word, to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious, grow up through the common. This was Ruby Counts Fedricci's symphony." - William Henry Channing and Bob Wolpert
Dear Tom,
This morning, I wrote a poem honoring the memory of your beloved mother.
Three Words
The sun's rays break through the cloudy South Carolina sky.
As a son remembers a gentle lady with a gleam in his eye.
Ruby was simply a universal treasure
With gifts many - well beyond measure.
The magnificence of the sunny weather
Reflects the good times you and Ruby shared together.
Images of Ruby are fresh and bright.
Three words come to mind - love, spirit, and delight.
Love is something Ruby gave to all,
To every creature, both great and small.
Her numerous acts of kindness and of love
Helped make the Earth happy like the heavens above.
Ruby's spirit was evidenced in many a way,
For she brightened up each and every day.
Her joie de vivre was profound and real.
Oh, how good she made people feel!
The delight Ruby gave was so divine
That it warmed the heart and soothed the mind.
Folks found themselves in a place just right
As they experienced the gift of her delight.
The sun's rays break through the cloudy South Carolina sky.
As a son remembers a gentle lady with a gleam in his eye.
Images of Ruby will remain fresh and bright.
Three words come to mind - love, spirit, and delight.
"To laugh often and love much; to win the respect of intelligent persons and the affection of children; to earn the approbation of honest citizens and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to give of one's self; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exultation; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived - this is to have succeeded." - Ralph Waldo Emerson
Ruby Counts Fedricci succeeded.

"Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal." - From a headstone in Ireland
Dear Tom,
I hope this message finds you feeling the love coming your way from friends near and far. The thoughts and prayers of many are with you and your family. It is often difficult to find the right words to express how you feel about the loss of a loved one.
This evening, I have been searching for a piece of writing that would be fitting, beautiful, and comforting - something that would express what your family and friends are feeling at this time - something that would be a lasting tribute to the memory of your beloved mother.
The piece I chose was the following memorial poem entitled All Is Well by Henry Scott Holland.
Death is nothing at all, I have only slipped into the next room
I am I and you are you
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.
Call me by my old familiar name,
Speak to me in the easy way which you always use
Put no difference in your tone,
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household world that it always was,
Let it be spoken without effect, without the trace of shadow on it.
Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same as it ever was, there is unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near,
Just around the corner.
All is well.
With deepest sympathy,
Bob Wolpert
