Obituary of Lynn Ficken Turbeville
Lynn Ficken Turbeville, 69, of Columbia, died Saturday, December 6, 2014. Born in Columbia on September 30, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Edith Leola Abbott and John Christian Ficken. She was a graduate of Columbia College. Lynn was a dancer who toured with the USO in Vietnam in 1967, and continued her dancing career on Broadway in New York City. She retired from South Carolina Department of Corrections as a program manager. Currently, Lynn was the Vice President of Programs for the Indian Waters Council of the Boy Scouts of America. She was also Assistant Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop # 324 and Cubmaster for Cub Scout Pack #324. Lynn was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award for the Indian Waters Council, and a Vigil member of the Muscogee Lodge #221. She loved hiking and being outdoors, and twice hiked the Philmont Scout Reservation after turning 60 years old. Lynn loved spending time with her family and friends.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 25 years, Greg Turbeville; son, Ryan Christian Turbeville of Columbia; nieces, Debra Wessinger of Irmo and Erin Davis of Rock Hill; nephew, George Edward Rhett Davis, III of Atlanta, GA; and several great nieces and great nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, George Edward Rhett Davis, II and James Abbott Davis.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at Bethel United Methodist Church, 4600 Daniel Drive, Columbia, South Carolina, 29206. Burial will follow in St. George Cemetery, St. George, South Carolina. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the church prior to the service on Thursday.
