Toya Thomson posted a condolence

I have known Gerda and John all my life, I love them very much. All I have are great memories with them, they were there from start to finish when my mother passed away. I am forever grateful.
I could talk with Gerda about anything and she would sit at the kitchen table and listen, and oh what food she had prepared for a kitchen table for it to be hers or someone else. Sitting with her she would feed your stomach and soul.
May the good Lord wrap his arms around her children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren now, months to come and years to come.
My Aunt/second Mother Christa Kelly lost a true great friend.

Gerda was loved by me when I was young, she invite me and various members of our Family to lunch or dinner. Never a cross word just the warmth of a hug and the fellowship she gave. When I first went into service she sent me cookies she baked I guarded them with my life. When I got married and came back to SC she invite both my wife and I to dinner. I remember my daughters 1st Halloween were we went to Johns and Gerda House and my daughter said trick or treak and Gerda open the door and my daughter step in. Gerda just looked down and said Steve you have a fire cracker here. She scooped her up and told her how to come to doors and gave here a hug. And she was ever the host always worked hard to put on a spread many times I ask if she wanted help and she would say no. She and John both hosted my family to a dinner after my Grandfather past. What a meal she prepared all was good but her rolls were to die for.. Even today as I told my daughter she told me how she made the best fried
chicken and the rolls she prepared I know my mother lost a friend and and the rest of our family lost an Aunt, Oma and a great friend. I will miss this great lady. Gerdi ,Frankie and Louellen I feel your loss she will be greatly missed . Rest in Peace till we meet again Steve Kelly (Glendale AZ)

Mom's cakes and cookies were the best... she was the greatest bakery chef I have ever had the privilege of knowing! Nobody could pass up her chocolate chip cookies or apple strudel.
