A strong, intelligent woman, I celebrate Gladys’ remarkable life and kindness.
She helped nurture and guide me from childhood to motherhood.
I spent many weeks each year staying with her and Brownie in their loving home. Gladys’ thoughtful ways, encouraging words and helpful suggestions ranged from good fashion sense, flavorful grits every morning and memorable holiday dinners and family activities together. Her life lessons and Southern hospitality helped center me in my life. I am a better person for having her in my life.
I will always be grateful for her wisdom, generosity and example. Gladys will always be a Southern Lady with poise, grace, style, care and compassion for others.
Lovingly,
Gerri

My sweet Aunt Gladys was the last of her generation and the oldest of 5 children. I understand she was always a sharpe dresser as a young woman and loved her friends, family, and pets. I will miss our visits at Pruitt. My husband Phil and children Erin and Zack loved to visit as well. I will miss frequent calls to Nina Shirer her loyal best friend. I love you Nina. We would talk often about our next party at Pruitt for Gladys' birthday and holidays. Gladys had many friends throughout her life and the ones at her last home were very special. Thank you to them.

I had the privilege of getting to meet and know Aunt Gladys in the years she spent at Pruitt Health on Forest Drive in Columbia, SC. I would go and visit this sweet lady as often as I could with my wife Jan. Jan would go every week and take Gladys clothes, purses and other items but her favorite treats were anything chocolate and Pepsi Colas! Gladys was a real flirt with the men and would make witty comments when I was there and pay a lot of attention to me, but before we would leave she would tell me what a wonderful person Jan was and how lucky I was to be married to her! She would always giggle when I would put my arm around Jan and say I know how lucky I am Gladys. We so enjoyed the years of visiting and socializing with Gladys and her many friends there and will miss those days quite a bit, but know how lucky we were to have had those years with her!
Love you Gladys-Your nephew in law Phil and niece Jan
