Obituary of Jennie Hill

COLUMBIA - Funeral service for Jennie Vermell Hill, 87, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 31, 2010, at Elmwood Avenue Church of God, officiated by Rev. Charles Ledford. Interment will follow in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday evening at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. Memorials may be made to Elmwood Avenue Church of God, 1427 Elmwood Avenue, Columbia, SC 29201.Miss Hill died Monday, July 26, 2010. Born in Richland County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Robert Thomas Hill and Mady Coward Hill. She was retired from Cigna Insurance Company in 1986, where she had been employed as a Broker. Miss Hill was a S.C. Tutor,Trainer for Lauback Adult Education; Personal Touch Volunteer at Baptist Hospital; and Mentor at A.C. Moore School. Miss Hill taught Sunday School since the age of 15 and Children's Church since the age of 18; she was the past S.C. State Secretary for the Church of God and a member of Elmwood Avenue Church of God. Surviving are her brother, William P. Hill; a niece, Elaine Hill Gossett and many other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Harold W. Hill.
