Obituary of Theodore Wood

Theodore Leroy Wood COLUMBIA: Funeral service for Theodore Leroy Wood, 98, of Columbia, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, June 12, 2011, at Elmwood Avenue Church of God, officiated by Rev. Byron Powers, Rev. Bruce Fox and Rev. Richard Porterfield. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Bill Meares, Jr., Teddy Roberson, Curtis Wood, Willie Wood, Randy Jones, Jimmy Jones and Kent White. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:30 p.m. prior to service at the church with service immediately following at 3:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to Elmwood Avenue Church of God, 1427 Elmwood Ave., Columbia, SC 29201. Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia is assisting the family. Mr. Wood, widower of Evelyn Baughman Wood, died Tuesday, June 7, 2011. Born in Blaney, SC, he was a son of the late James Mason Wood and Ola Christmus Wood. He was the oldest member and honorary head usher of Elmwood Avenue Church of God. Mr. Wood was retired from Olympia and Pacific Mills. Surviving are: daughters, Lona Geneva Meares (William) of Columbia, Shirley Ann Herz (Fred) of Fayetteville, NC, Gayle Arden Jones of Gastonia, NC and Linda Wood White (Woody) of Lexington; sons, Leroy Theodore Wood (Frances) of Gaston, Carroll Edward Wood (Mae) of Pensacola, FL; sister, Edna Mae Richardson of Charleston; forty-two grandchildren, fifty-nine great grandchildren and fourteen great great grandchildren. Mr. Wood was preceded in death by sons, William Earl Wood, Charles Mason Wood, granddaughters, Chastity White and Sharon Roberson Molt; sisters, Irene Grooms and Lillian Carson and brothers, James "Jim", Albert and Clyburn Wood.
