Obituary of Katherine Smith

CHAPIN—Funeral services for Katherine D. Smith, 84, of Chapin, will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at St. John United Methodist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Rudolph Barnes, Jr. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be James "Woody" Barr, Woodrow "Buddy" W. Smith, III, Brandon Sloan, Cory Sloan, Reese Reiber and Evan Paxton Wages. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. Mrs. Smith, widow of Woodrow Wilson Smith, Sr., passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2011. Born in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late John Denham and Alberta Leonhart Denham. She was a lifetime area resident and a member of St. John United Methodist Church. She married the love of her life at the age of 15 and enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren. Surviving are her daughter, Brenda Smith-Barr (James) of Chapin; son, Woodrow "Rocky" Smith (Holly) of Columbia; 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Douglas C. Smith and a daughter, Martha A. Smith.
