Obituary of Norman Shumard

Norman "Norm" C. Shumard WEST COLUMBIA-Services for Norman "Norm" C. Shumard, 75, of West Columbia, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, October 2, 2011, at Holland Avenue Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Charles Wilson. Burial will follow in Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:30 prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Holland Avenue Baptist Church Missions, 801 12th Street, Cayce, SC 29033. Pallbearers will be Billy Watson, Tony Duarte, Hunter Bolton, Gregory Bolton, Micah Kaufman, Jeff Williams and Jon Ziegler. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons, Choir and Jubilant Singers from the church; and the DEA and Justice Department. Mr. Shumard died Wednesday, September 28, 2011. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was the son of the late Norman Cornell Shumard, Sr. and Frieda "Fea" Geminden Shumard. Formerly of Ohio, he had been a local resident since 1968. He was a member of Holland Avenue Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and member of the Choir and Jubilant Singers and was involved in Missions. He was retired from DEA and South Carolina DHEC. He was a member of Saluda Tractor Club and passionate about John Deere tractors and wood working. Mr. Shumard was a Master Craftsman and an award winning cross-stitcher. He also helped at the Lexington Commission of Aging at Christmas in Lexington County. Surviving are his wife of 25 years, Nancy G. Shumard of West Columbia; daughter, Cheri Rogers (Bill) of Lexington; sons, Brian C. Shumard of Columbia, Russell W. Shumard (Leah) of Cayce and Rev. H.B. "Sunny" Mooney (Cindy) of Peoria, IL; eight grandchildren, Christopher W. Rogers, Ashley R. Betz (Tom), Garrett R. Mooney, Grant A. Mooney, Hayley G. Rogers, Russell A. Shumard, K. Olivia Shumard and Hannah D. Rogers; his sister, Martha S. Kaufman and brother, John H. Shumard (Mary) of Cincinnati, OH. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Max Kaufman.
