Frances S. Gunter WEST COLUMBIA: A celebration of life for Frances S. Gunter, 82, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2012, at Platt Springs United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Rebecca J. Shirley. Interment will follow at Celestial Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be her nephews, Claude Gantt, Marty Hilyer, Travis Hatcher, Steve Shumpert, Jeffery Keen, Derek Shumpert, Michael Shumpert, Rudy Shumpert and Chuck Spears. Honorary pallbearers will be the Wesley Fellowship Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends from 11 until 1 p.m. prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Platt Springs United Methodist Church, 3214 Platt Springs Road, West Columbia, SC 29170. Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington is assisting the family. Mrs. Gunter, widow of Morris Edward Gunter, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, January 4, 2012. Born in Pelion, SC, she was a daughter of the late Paul Ernest Shumpert and Marty Poole Shumpert. Mrs. Gunter was a very active member of Platt Springs United Methodist Church; the Wesley Fellowship Sunday School Class and the Selima Stokes Circle. Surviving are her daughters, Kathy Wimberly (Billy) of Gilbert, Edna Bodie (Lin) of West Columbia, Mary Gasque (Ken) of Columbia, Barbara Hamby (Mike) of Murrells Inlet, Brenda Anderson of Columbia and Mary Downs (Larry) of Savannah, GA; grandchildren, Leah Avery (Alex), Kim Frawley, Nicholas and Frances Hallie Gasque, Renee Ludwig (Mark), Thomas Gasque (Catherine), Chris Hamby (Alex), Michael Anderson (Christina), Krista Gantt (Michael) and Christina Routhier (Chad); great grandchildren, Dax Avery; Payton, Braiden and Coby Frawley; Megan, Marlin, Michael and Maddie Ludwig; Baker and Catie Gasque; Sharon Routhier and Baby Boy Hamby due in March; sisters, Joyce Gantt (Bill) of Wagner, Patsy Hilyer of West Columbia, Faye Adams (Buddy) of Johnston, Lynn Brettschneider (John) of Cary, NC and Elaine Spears (Stan) of Lexington; brothers, Walter Shumpert and Vern Shumpert of West Columbia, James Shumpert (Jeanette) of Pelion, and Donald Shumpert (Sarah) of Red Bank; Also many, many nieces and nephews whom she loved.
