Obituary of Donna Strange

WEST COLUMBIA - Donna Lee Ayres Strange departed this life Tuesday, December 21, 2010. Born in Nichols, SC, Marion County; she was the daughter of the late John Andrew and Hattie Walters Floyd Ayres. She was predeceased by her husband of fifty-four years, Harold W. Strange.She was a member of Park Street Baptist Church where she had previously been active in Sunday School, Missionary Circles and Mission Action, and also worked as a volunteer at Baptist Medical Center. She was a dedicated Registered Nurse who loved people and had a passion for God to use her life. She was an avid lover of flowers and had started and kept a flower garden at Agape Senior Center where she last lived. They were enjoyed by visitors, residents and especially shut-ins when they were brought out for a walk.She is survived by one daughter, Betty Compton of Brantley, AL; and one son, Harold W. Strange, Jr. of Edgewater, MD; six grandchildren, John Compton (Susie), Gina Chartier (Keith), Bruce Compton, Debra Williams, Michael Strange (Carole Ann) and Melissa Carrier (Joe); and thirteen great-grandchildren. She also leaves a loving niece, Billie Caughman of Lexington.Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, December 27, 2010, at the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. Officiating will be The Rev. Dr. Sam Catoe and Chaplain Yu Fong Chong. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery and Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5-7 Sunday evening at the funeral home.
