Obituary of Rachel Koon

A funeral service celebrating the life and legacy of Rachel Hogan Koon, 83, formerly of the Horrell Hill Community, Hopkins, SC will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at Beulah Baptist Baptist Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday afternoon from 5:00 to 7:00p.m. at Beulah Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Advancing the Kingdom@ Beulah Baptist Church, 9487 Garners Ferry Road, Hopkins, SC 29061 in Rachel?s memory. Mrs. Koon departed this earthly life on Friday, August 5, 2011. She was born in Columbia, SC to the late William Sanders Hogan, Jr. and Bessie Irene Rawlinson Hogan. Mrs. Koon retired from the Accounting Department at Lower Richland High School. Rachel was a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church during her childhood years. After she married Eugene, Rachel and her family were members of Beulah Baptist Church. Mrs. Koon was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Eugene Willard Koon, Sr. and her brother, Dr. Gilbert S. Hogan. Surviving is her daughter, Patricia Koon (Mack) Allen; three sons, Eugene W. ?Buddy? (Sherry Bonner) Koon, Jr., Bo Koon, and Charles W. Koon; her brother, William Sanders (Barbara) Hogan, III; a sister-in-law, Caroline Hogan; ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, a host of other loving relatives and friends that will miss her dearly.
