Obituary of Sarah Sawyer

A funeral service celebrating the life of Sarah Edith Sawyer, 77, widow of the late Batie Lee ?Buzz? Sawyer of Columbia will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at Woodfield Park Baptist Church with entombment to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8p.m. on Friday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Woodfield Park Baptist Church, 1834 Morninglo Lane, Columbia, SC 29223 in Sarah?s memory. The family has entrusted Greenlawn Funeral Home with the arrangements. Mrs. Sawyer departed this earthly life on Tuesday, November 9, 2010 in Winston-Salem, NC. ?Dolly? as she was affectionately called by her family, was born in Timmonsville, South Carolina on January 5, 1933 to Herschel and Mattie Gasque Williamson. Sarah retired after many dedicated years in Civil Service and was very active with her Woodfield Park Baptist Church family in which she served as a greeter and on numerous committees. ?Dolly? was predeceased by her parents and several siblings. Surviving are her loving daughters, Connie Faye Sawyer of Milwaukee, WI, and Sue (Dianne) Brockway and her husband Fred Brockway of Clemmons, NC; a son, David Wayne Sawyer and his wife Connie Sawyer of Florence, SC; four grandchildren, Randy, Melissa, Ashly, and Brandon; six great-grandchildren, Kody, Kaleb, Trenton, Kameron, William and Briana; her sister, Geneva Tolson of Florence, SC; several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends that will miss her dearly. Sarah lived her life as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to many and will always be remembered for the life lessons she shared with all.
