Obituary of Marvin McCutchen

WEST COLUMBIA:Funeral service for Marvin Vernon McCutchen, 87, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 3, 2011, at Washington Street United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Dr. William R. Childs and Rev. Diana Westerkam. Entombment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1pm prior to service in the church parlor. Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia is assisting the family. Mr. McCutchen, husband of Frances Geddings McCutchen, died Tuesday, February 01, 2011, at his home with his family by his side. Born on October 6, 1923, in Kingstree, SC, he was a son of the late Hampton Rutledge and Addie McClary McCutchen. A 1941 graduate of Kingstree High School he served in the U.S. Army during WWII, where he received the Purple Heart. Mr. McCutchen retired from JC Penney in 1983 after a 38 year career in retail store management. Surviving is his wife of 64 years, Frances Geddings McCutchen; sons, William McCutchen (Patricia) of Atlanta, GA; and Stephen McCutchen (Connie) of Columbia; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren; sister, Mildred Small, brother, Rhodas McCutchen both of Kingstree, SC. Mr. McCutchen was a faithful servant of God and to his church. Memorials may be made to Washington Street United Methodist Church, 1401 Washington St., Columbia, SC 29201.
