Obituary of Florence Cook

Florence Wilson Cook COLUMBIA-Services for Florence Marguerite Wilson Cook, 83, of Columbia, will be held at Grace United Methodist Church, 410 Harbison Boulevard, Columbia, SC 29212 at 3pm. Friday, February 18, 2011. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 19, 2011 at St. Lawrence Cemetery, Huguenin Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29405. Officiating will be Reverend Alex Stevenson. The family will have visitation at 2pm prior to service at the church. They will be at the home of Mike and Darlene Simpson, 14 River Bottom Road, Irmo, SC 29063 after the service. Honorary pallbearers will be the Brown Bag Bible Study. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 410 Harbison Boulevard, Columbia, SC 29212. Ms. Cook died Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at The Heritage at Lowman Home, White Rock, SC, after a long and courageous battle of Dementia/Alzheimer's. Born on July 13, 1927 in Charleston, SC, she was the daughter of the late Pearl Heriot Wilson and Morton Wilkinson Wilson. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. She graduated as class Valedictorian from St. Andrews High School in Charleston, SC. She worked at the 6th Naval District in Charleston, SC before moving to Florida in 1959, where she was the bookkeeper of Miami Battery and Electric in Miami, Florida, and retired as bookkeeper from Irmo Office Supply in Irmo. Surviving are her son, Michael Cook of Columbia and daughter-in-law, Susan Cook of West Columbia; daughter, Darlene Simpson and son-in-law Mike of Irmo; grandchildren, James "Jamie"Simpson and wife Toni of Irmo, Tricia Simpson of West Columbia, Charles "Chad" Cook of Rock Hill, Lisa Stokes and husband Chris of Lexington, and Ben and Steven Blitch of West Columbia; great-grandsons, Shawn and Charlie Simpson of Irmo and Chandler and Landon Stokes of Lexington; many nieces and nephews; and sisters-in-law, Jean Wilson and Betty Thrift. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Frank Wilson and Morton Wilson, and brother-in-law, Frank Thrift.
