Obituary of Mary Davis

A funeral service celebrating the life of Mary Elizabeth Davis, 79, of Hopkins will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 in Greenlawn Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Drew Kornreich and Reverend Joe Copeland officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the funeral home. The family has entrusted Greenlawn Funeral Home with the arrangements. Mary Elizabeth Davis passed away on March 5, 2011. Born in Bexar County, Texas on February 10, 1932 to Addison D. Davis, Jr. and Corrie Wooters Davis. She was predeceased by a brother, Addison D. Davis, III and a nephew, Murray A. Davis. Mary graduated from Columbia High School and obtained her BA degree from Brenau College and was a member of Delta Delta Delta Soroity. She was employed by the City of Columbia Parks and Recreation and the Congaree Girl Scout Council where she retired as the Executive Director in 1987. Mary enjoyed working part time in her retirement with her friends at Oak Grove Bookkeeping and Tax. Rose Hill Presbyterian Church was her church home for over 60 years. She held many leadership roles in the Women In the Church (WIC) organization. Ms. Davis is survived by a nephew, A.D. Davis, IV, Tad (Diane); a niece, Lora Elizabeth Davis Warren (Van); four great nieces, Sarah Ruth and Amy Elizabeth Davis, Katherine Hayes ?Kat? and Elizabeth Ann Warren ?Libby? and a great nephew, John Addison Davis Warren ?Tad?; her friend, Ann M. Anderson, and many cousins. Mary was a quiet, gentle, loving spirit who will be missed by a host of friends.
