Obituary of JANET JOHNSON

Janet H. Johnson, 87, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2011. She was born July 28, 1923 in Columbia, SC. She graduated from Dreher High School and Winthrop College, where she was a physical education major and a cheerleader. She did post-graduate work at the University of South Carolina. She was special education teacher for 42 years, and was loved by her students, their families and faculty. She was married 54 years, and loved to travel the world with her beloved husband Eric and her family. She was a longtime member of Kilbourne Park Baptist Church, where she was involved in her Sunday School Class activities and Bible Study Groups for many years. She lived a long, happy life fulfilled with her love of Christianity. Her everyday life was driven by her never-wavering faith in the Lord. Her loves were her family, church, teaching career and traveling. She was always there to step in and help not only her family but anyone in need, and touched many lives. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family, for whom she was a shining example of how to live. Surviving to cherish her memory are her son, Thomas J. Johnson (wife Janice); daughters, Erica J. Craig, Lyn J. Sachs and Jan H. Jonsson (husband Bryan Pannell); nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas Pressley Hogan and Ella Boyd Satterwhite Hogan; her husband, Eric W. Johnson; and a brother, Thomas P. Hogan, Jr. A memorial service for Mrs. Johnson will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Kilbourne Park Baptist Church with Pastor Travis Biller officiating. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Thornwell Home for Children, 302 S. Broad Street Clinton, SC 29325.
