Obituary of William Ruiz

A funeral service celebrating the life of William Nilo Ruiz, 85, of Columbia will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at Greenlawn Baptist Church with masonic rites and military honors to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park Serenity Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00p.m. on Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be sent to the Lower Richland Masonic Lodge #406, Eastover, SC 29044 in William?s memory. Mr. Ruiz departed this earthly life on Monday, March 28, 2011. He was born in Asheville, NC to Cipriano Ruiz and Elsie Brown Ruiz. Mr. Ruiz was a member at Greenlawn Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He also was a member of the Lower Richland Masonic Lodge #406 and the Scottish Rites. Mr. Ruiz retired from the Department of Veterans Affairs and he was a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Ruiz was predeceased by his parents and his son, David Lee Ruiz. Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Betty Brigman Ruiz; sons, William ?Bill? (Georgia) Ruiz and Richard Boyd Ruiz; grandchildren, Kelly (Matt) Durham, Derek Ruiz and Lauren (Daniel) Ruiz; great-grandchildren, Olivia and Daniel; his brothers, Berk Ruiz and Bob (Betty) Ruiz; and a host of other relatives and friends that will miss him dearly.
