Obituary of John Ogawa

Funeral services for Staff Sgt. John Frederick Ogawa, US Army (Retired), 72, of Columbia, will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at Greenlawn Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8pm Wednesday evening at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 845 Leesburg Road Columbia, SC 29209. Mr. Ogawa passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2011. He was born July 13, 1938 in Kaneohe, HI. Mr. Ogawa was a dedicated veteran, having served 22 years in the US Army with two tours of duty in Vietnam. He retired from the military in 1977 as E-6 Staff Sgt. He then began his career with the civil service, retiring after 26 years of service. He was a member of the Abundant Life Fellowship Church, and was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He loved the Lord, his country, Hawaii, Kung Fu movies, volleyball, fishing, and his many family and friends. Surviving to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 44 years, Bobby Frances Ogawa; his children, Michelle Ogawa Vest (husband Andrew) of Waipahu, HI and Daniel Ogawa (wife Larinda) of Ft. Benning, GA; a sister, Lettitia Fernandez (husband Butch) of Monterrey, CA and brother Daniel ?Buzz? Ogawa (wife Pam) of Kona, HI; and granddaughter, Juliana Gaines (Sven Brian Gaines) of Colorado Springs, CO. He was predeceased by his parents, Daniel and Janet Ogawa; a brother, Donald Ogawa; and a sister, Jane Adair.
