Obituary of Edna Hammett

Edna Whitehead Hammett CAYCE—Funeral services for Edna Whitehead Hammett, 90, of Cayce, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 28, 2011 at First Baptist Church of West Columbia. Officiating will be Rev. Dr. William H. "Bill" Drees and Rev. Charlton Bozard. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. The family will receive friends from 5-7 Friday evening at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. Mrs. Hammett, widow of Marion F. Hammett, passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2011. Born in Elberton, GA, she was the daughter of the late John Clarence Whitehead and Marie Adams Whitehead. She was a longtime area resident and a member of First Baptist Church of West Columbia. She enjoyed taking care of children and was known for her cake decorating skills. Edna enjoyed serving others. Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Nathan Brown of Cayce, Marie and Ray Epps of Cayce and Frances and Billy Branham of Gaston; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Justeen Hammett of Youngstown, Ohio; 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Ben Hammett, two brothers and two sisters.
