Obituary of Philip Goings

Philip B. Goings WEST COLUMBIA—Funeral services for Philip B. Goings, 81, of West Columbia, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, September 12, 2011 at Congaree Baptist Church. Officiating will be Brother Bill E. Messer. Burial will follow in Southland Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Memorials may be made in Philip's honor to Congaree Baptist Church, 101 Pine Ridge Drive, West Columbia, SC 29172. Mr. Goings, beloved husband of Peggy E. Goings, passed away on Friday, September 9, 2011. Born in Bonneau, SC, he was the son of the late Philip B. Goings and Rena Timmons Goings. He was a lifetime area resident and a member of Congaree Baptist Church. He was also a member in the Carsoner Sunday School Class and a member of Teamsters Union 509 for over 42 years. He worked 33 years for McLean Trucking Company and retired from Carolina Freight. Surviving in addition to his beloved wife of 62 years, Peggy Goings of West Columbia; sons, Gerald Goings of West Columbia, Kenny Goings of Lexington, Donald Goings, Allen Goings, Paul Goings all of West Columbia and Terry Goings of Cedar Creek; eleven grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lucille Carter of N. Charleston and Irene Huckabee of Summerville; brothers, G.W. "Dick" Goings of Indiana, Theo "Ben" Goings of Summerton, Alton Goings of Alaska and Robert "Buddie" Goings of Indiana.
