Obituary of Mabelline Johnson

A funeral service celebrating the life and legacy of Mabelline M. Johnson, 84, of Columbia will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 6904 Satchelford Road, Columbia, SC 29206 with Reverend Luther Swicegood and Reverend Dermon Sox officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service on Saturday at the church. Memorials may be made to a charity of one?s choice or to Gethsemane Lutheran Church, which memorials in Mabelline?s memory will be used for the new fruit & vegetable garden at the church that will benefit families of the community. Mrs. Johnson departed this earthly life on Wednesday, September 14, 2011. She was born in Metter, GA to Leo Mixon and Mabel Edenfield Mixon. Mabelline was a longtime member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church for 39 years. Mabelline was predeceased by her parents, a sister, Nell Mixon and a brother, Bobby Mixon. Surviving are her loving and devoted husband of 44 years, Harry D. Johnson; daughters, Penny (Kenneth) Grove and Carol (Buddy) Day; a son, Dean (Nairanjana Dasgupta) Johnson; a sister, Judith Winkler; brothers, Bernard Mixon and Ed Parrish; five grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends that will miss her dearly.
