Obituary of Mary Smith Ivey

Mary Frances Smith Ivey CAYCE—A graveside service for Mary Frances Smith Ivey, 89, of Cayce, will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2011 in Southland Memorial Gardens. Officiating will be Rev. Joe Borgkvist. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Tuesday evening at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Cayce, 600 Holland Ave., Cayce, SC 29033. Ms. Ivey passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2011. Born in Union County, SC, she was the daughter of the late Rev. John Arthur Smith and Mattie Trapp Smith. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Cayce, a Veteran of WWII and an officer serving in the United States Navy, and retired from Dorn VA Medical Center as a registered nurse. Surviving are her children, Robert A. Ivey, Jr. (Cheryl) of Lexington, John D. Ivey of Cayce, Eleanor I. Gay (Cliff) of Kernersville, NC, Donald L. Ivey (Cathy) of Lexington and Ronald W. Ivey (Jeanette) of Poulsbo, WA; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; sister, Christine Allen (Ed) and a brother, Talmadge "Buddy" Smith (Betty); along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five sisters, Oleta, Ruth, Johnnie Mae, Carrie Belle and Virginia "Jenny".
