Obituary of Torrence Gaines

Torrence Ezell Gaines BLYTHEWOOD—A funeral service for Torrence Ezell Gaines, 91, of Blythewood, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 10, 2011 in Columbia Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with military honors. Officiating will be Pastor Penny Baker. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday evening at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. Memorials may be made to Warriors Walk c/o WJB Dorn VA, 6438 Garners Ferry Road, Columbia, SC 29209. Mr. Gaines passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2011. Born in Camden, he was the son of the late Newton Gaines and Katherine Lawhorn Gaines. He was a lifetime area resident and a Veteran of the United States Army having served during WWII. He retired from The State Hospital after many years of dedicated service. He was devoted to his family and friends. He spent his entire life taking care of others. Surviving are his daughter, Juanita Livingston of Cayce; sons, Allen Gaines of Ridgeway and Edward Gaines of Blythewood; grandchildren, Shayne Livingston, Jason Gaines and Nicole Gaines and a great-grandchild, Kameron Gaines. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Leila Mae Norman Gaines; sister, Mary Brown, two brothers, James and Elmer Gaines and son-in-law, Wayne Livingston. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at White Oak Manor and the Warriors Walk at the VA Hospital.
