Joyce E. "Jack" Alsup, Jr. WEST COLUMBIA— Joyce E. "Jack" Alsup, Jr., 87, of West Columbia, passed away on Friday, November 11, 2011. A viewing will be held at Christ's Sanctified Holy Church of West Columbia from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2011 and on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 from 7-9 p.m. at Christ's Sanctified Holy Church in Perry, GA. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 17, 2011 at Christ's Sanctified Holy Church, Perry, GA., with burial to follow in church cemetery. Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington is assisting the family. He attended Norview High School in Norfolk, VA. He served in the Navy for 3 years during WWII as a gunner in the Pacific Theatre. He was a brick and stone mason contractor for much of his life. Jack was a great lover of music, hunting and fishing. On any given Friday night, you would find him among the regulars at Bill's Pickin Parlor. We all loved him and he will be remembered for his great sense of humor, Stetson hat and love of the guitar, he will be missed by family, nieces, nephews and a host of friends. He was born in Birmingham, AL on October 12, 1924 and was the oldest of seven children. He is survived by one brother, Lester Roy Alsup Sr. of Mills River, NC and two sisters, Edna Lorraine "Mickey" Wright (Karl) of Raleigh, NC and Ella Jean Rollins (Vernon) of Columbia, SC, one sister-in-law, Katherine Lance Alsup of West Columbia. Jack was predeceased by his parents, Joyce Earnest Alsup Sr. and Edna Lorraine Carter Alsup and his beloved wife, Mary Elizabeth Bouknight Alsup; two brothers, Edward Leonard and Robert Lee Alsup and one sister, Esther Ruth.
