Obituary of Adelaide Miles

Adelaide Hucks Miles, 90, died Tuesday, December 13, 2011. Adelaide was born in the Dog Bluff Section of Horry County near Aynor, SC on December 3, 1921 as the first of ten children of Ben Tillman Hucks and Roxie Naomi Jordan Hucks. Adelaide was predeceased by both parents, her sisters Allison Hucks and Hilda Hucks Baxley, her brother Albert Walter Hucks, her first husband George Freck, and her second husband Harvey Miles. Adelaide is survived by her five children: Frances Hicks of Conway, Kathryn Freck of Lexington, Jan Weaver of Columbia, Pam (Albert) Gilbson of Irmo, and Jerry (Pam) Freck of Lexington, SC. Adelaide is also survived by: her sisters Ruby Hucks Cooper of Charleston, SC, Barbara Hucks Atkins of Virginia Beach, VA, Dot Hucks Edwards of Aynor, SC, Pat Hucks Richardson of Conway, Carol Hucks Ulizano of Myrtle Beach, and one brother Billy Ray Hucks of Columbia, SC. Adelaide?s family has grown to include nine grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. Although a former resident of Horry County, Adelaide resided in the Columbia area for the later half of her life. Among other avocations, Adelaide served as a patient care provider at the Baptist Hospital in Columbia, and at the Moncrief Army Hospital at Fort Jackson. Adelaide was a resident of the Brian Center in St. Andrews. Originally raised as a Baptist, Adelaide symbolized her dedication to Jehovah God by water baptism in Columbia, SC in July 1975. Adelaide was the first in her large family to become one of Jehovah?s Witnesses and was a member of the Broad River Road Congregation of Jehovah?s Witnesses. Adelaide directed that her obituary include an expression of loving appreciation to each one of you who were loving and kind toward her and her family during her life. Adelaide held strongly to the hope of the resurrection spoken of by Jesus Christ at John 5:25-28. Adelaide looked forward to that happy day when she would be reunited with each one of you. In lieu of flowers, Adelaide invites each one of you to support the world wide preaching work of Jehovah?s Witnesses in the form of a modest contribution made out to: Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania, 25 Columbia Heights, Brooklyn, NY 11201-2483. A brief service of remembrance will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, December 31, 2011 at the Greenlawn Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel. Private interment will be at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Columbia.
