Obituary of William E. Bailey

William E. "Bill" Bailey Devoted husband, loving father and grandfather WEST COLUMBIA: William E. "Bill" Bailey, 70, passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2011. Born in Lafayette, GA, he was a son of the late Elmer Summerfield Bailey and Mary Dorothy Rivers Bailey. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2011, at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. A service will be held in Camilla, GA at a later date. Memorials may be made to Pets, Inc., P.O. Box 6394, West Columbia, SC 29171. Mr. Bailey graduated from Camilla High School, Camilla, GA; and graduated Summa Cum Laude from GA State College with Bachelor's Degree in Actuarial Science. He was retired from W.B. Actuarial Services and Dataplex. He served on the Central Midlands Regional Planning Council. He was a member of the Society of Actuaries, Society of Consulting Actuaries and the Southeastern Actuaries Association. Mr. Bailey was accomplished at guitar and piano and loved music of all kinds. His favorite hobby was woodworking and he enjoyed gardening. He was a doting and active father and grandfather, who enjoyed crafting things for his children and grandchildren. He courageously and valiantly dealt with Parkinson's disease for the past 11 years. The family would like to thank the ER staff of Lexington Medical Center and the Surgical Recovery floor for their excellent care and compassion. Surviving are: his loving spouse of 47 years, Joyce Weddle Bailey; son, Christopher Summerfield Bailey; daughter, Kerry Bailey Everett all of West Columbia; five grandchildren, Christopher Summerfield "C.J." Bailey, Jr., Meredith Madeline Sharwood Bailey, Matthew William Bailey, Ella Lee Everett and Jesse Rivers Everett; and his beloved sister, Betty Bailey Jones of Camilla, GA; nephews Tony and Mark Jones and their families.
