Obituary of Mattie Watkins Shealy

Mattie Mae Watkins Shealy WEST COLUMBIA: Service for Mattie Mae Watkins Shealy will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 29, 2011, at Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Larry Hays. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday evening, at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210 or to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312. Mrs. Shealy went to live with the Lord on December 26, 2011. Born in Percy, SC, she was a daughter of the late Sarah Elizabeth and John Sifley Watkins. A life time resident of West Columbia; she retired from the Olympia Mills. She was a member of Mt. Hebron Methodist Church and was a former member of the Loyal Workers Sunday School Class. Surviving are her son, Robert and wife, Robin Shealy; daughter, Bettie and husband, Paul Mills; daughters-in-law, Eula Shealy and Mary (Julian) Boles; granddaughters, Terrie (Steve) Sanders and Michelle (David) Roof; grandsons, Robert (Michelle) Shealy, Jr., Heath O. Shealy, Timothy (Tonya) Shealy, Jamie (Tabitha) Smith, Steven (Tonya) Mills and Michelle (Michael) Nash; fifteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; honorary family members, Sue, Lawrence, Stephen and Chad Gamble. Mrs. Shealy was preceded in death by husband, Herbert Shealy, sons, Samuel F. Shealy, and James E. Shealy, grandson, Rex Mills; sisters, Annie Clyde Wages, Minnie Taylor, Bessie Dabbs and brothers, Graydon Watkins, Quinton Watkins, Homer Watkins and Theodore Watkins. The family wishes to thank the staff at National Health Lexington and Tri County Hospice for the love and care given to Mattie during her stay; they had become like family.
