Obituary of Mary McLeod Reed

Mary Duke McLeod Reed WEST COLUMBIA: Services for Mary Duke McLeod Reed, 88, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2012, in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, 4720 Augusta Rd., Lexington, SC 29073. The service will be officiated by Rev. Rocky Purvis and Rev. Yu-Fong Chong. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Agape Senior Foundation, c/o Lisa Livingston, 1053 Center St., West Columbia, SC 29169. Mrs. Reed went to be with the Lord, Sunday, January 1, 2012. Born in Blenheim, SC, she was a daughter of the late Oswell Boyce McLeod, Sr. and Mary Clifton Duke McLeod. Mrs. Reed graduated from Columbia High School and Columbia College and taught in elementary schools. She served faithfully as a pastor's wife in 12 churches and was very active in all facets of church life. She was very creative and particularly enjoyed knitting and sewing. Surviving is her husband, John O. "Joe" Reed, Jr.; daughter, Marilyn Reed Thomson (David) of Columbia; sons, Jim Reed (Jeanne) of Florence, Pete Reed (Anne) of Arlington, VA and Phil Reed of Columbia; brother, Joe McLeod of Wallkill, NY; twelve grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
