Obituary of George Hardee

George L. Hardee WEST COLUMBIA—Funeral services for George L. Hardee, 86, of West Columbia, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at Trinity United Methodist Church, West Columbia. Officiating will be Rev. Phil C. Lavender and Rev. David W. Day. Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. in Ft. Jackson National Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday evening, January 10, 2012 at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Memorials may be made in George's honor to Trinity United Methodist Church-WC, 1201 Mohawk Drive, West Columbia, SC 29169 or Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256. Mr. Hardee, beloved husband of Carolyn Holladay Hardee, crossed over on Friday, January 6, 2012. Born in Loris, he was the son of the late George F. Hardee, and Annie Lillian Carter Hardee. He was preceded in death by his brothers, James Lloyd Hardee and Cecil F. Hardee. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, having served during WWII and was wounded in action in St. Lo, France. He was recipient of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Battle Star. He was a Charter member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where he was a choir member, a former Sunday school teacher and a member of the Sinners Sunday school class. He also was on the Board of Trustees at the church and a member of the American Legion Post 79 where he served as a Post Commander, Cayce Masonic Lodge #384 and an Assistant Scout Master in the Boy Scouts of America. He retired as owner and president of Neil Parts Rebuilders in September 2010. Surviving, in addition to his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Carolyn Holladay Hardee, are children, Lynn H. Martin (Chuck), George L. "Sonny" Hardee, Jr., Gary F. Hardee, Peggy Jo Nadler (Dean), Joey A. Hardee (Shayne) and Randy R. Hardee; eight wonderful grandchildren, Bryan and Chris Spencer, Jon and Matthew Martin, Wessli-Ann and Alyx Marie Hardee, Ayden & Kyler Hardee along with two beautiful great-grandchildren, Audra and Madison Spencer; sisters, Betty Rausch, Althea King and Diane Smith; brothers, Edward Hardee and Wesley Hardee.
