Always a good and friendly neighbor, the time I most remember was visiting Mr. Charlie in the ICU at Baptist after his brain aneurysm episode. Things didn't look good, he was in bad shape but stable. I believe he knew I was there. I bowed, held his hand and said the Lord's Prayer. He was intubated (had a breathing tube), but I felt him clench my hand. After awhile he got much better, did rehab and came home. His memory was a little sketchy, but he remembered me and my wife and daughter. Katie (my daughter) always called him Mr. Charlie. A good man, neighbor and soldier.

I worked at MTC during the time Charlie was there. We did not work in the same area, but I always enjoyed meeting and greeting with him on campus. We served on some committees together and I got to know him as a straight shooter and wise friend. I know his passing will leave a void.

Charlie was one of my favorite faculty members and department heads in the Engineering and Industrial Technologies Division at Midlands Technical College. He did a lot to improve the Carpentry program and supervise other industrial programs in his department. The last time I saw Charlie was a few years after his retirement when we had a good visit together in his home. Thanks for the nice obituary that let me know more about his life. My prayers are to comfort his family in this time of loss.
