Obituary of Charles Brooks

A graveside service celebrating the life of Charles Edwin Brooks, 90, of Hopkins, SC will be held at 3:00p.m. Wednesday, February 22, 2012 in Greenlawn Memorial Park with military honors to follow. Reverend J. Thompson will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening at Greenlawn Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Richland County Sheriff?s Department, 5623 Two Notch Road, Columbia, SC 29223 in Charles?s memory for the purchase of life-saving vest for the deputies. Mr. Brooks departed this earthly life on Sunday, February 19, 2012. He was born on January 27, 1922 in Columbia, South Carolina. Charles was the third of ten children born to Kirk and Eula Harmon Brooks. Mr. Brooks was a veteran of the United States Army in which he served four years in infantry during WWII. SSgt C.E. Brooks retired from the Richland County Sheriff?s Department after 35 years of dedicated service to the Richland County community. Mr. Brooks has been a member of Beulah Baptist Church in Hopkins, SC for 75 years. He was well-known as the coordinator of the Lower Richland Spring Party and BBQ cooker for family and church events. Charles was a dedicated husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and brother. Surviving is his lovely wife, Frances Jones Brooks; a loving daughter and son-in-law, Kathy Brooks Cox and Russell Cox; twin grandsons, Harmon and Baker Cox; his sister, Lou Brooks; a brother and sister-in-law, Mason and Priscilla Brooks; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends that will miss him dearly.
