Obituary of Wilbur Johnson

COLUMBIA: Wilbur G. Johnson, 71, passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2012, at home, after a battle with cancer. Born in Greensboro, NC, he was a son of Lucille Angel Johnson and the late Eugene H. Johnson. He was the owner of Palmetto Paint & Body Shop for 41 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid NASCAR Fan. Mr. Johnson was a member of the North Columbia Optimist Club and Cedar Creek Baptist Church in Blythewood. Mr. Johnson is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Elaine C. Johnson; children, Stephen G. Johnson (Marie) of West Columbia and Kelli J. Lawson (Richard) of Lexington; grandchildren, Brent & Kayla Johnson, Taylor & Cooper Smith; step-grandchildren, Macy & Ashley Lawson; his mother, Lucille Johnson; brothers, Larry W. Johnson (Helen) of Greenville, W. Keith Johnson (Cindy) of Alpharetta, GA, Horace D. Johnson (Theresa) of Gilbert; sisters, Linda Laird (James) of Mt. Pleasant and Jeannie Taylor of Lexington; his sister-in-law, Margaret "Peggy" Puckett of Irmo; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services for Wilbur G. Johnson will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 25, 2012, in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, officiated by Rev. Amos Hann. Interment will follow at Woodridge Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Carl Snyder, Christopher Johnson, Donald Hammer, Jamie Laird, Tony Puckett and Lenny Buckner. The family would like to thank Dr. El Geneidy and his entire staff at SCOA, the nurses at the Infusion Center of Lexington Medical Center and Abby Road Hospice.
