Obituary of Richard Hutto

Richard A. Hutto, Sr. GASTON: Graveside service for Richard A. Hutto, Sr., 73, of Gaston, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at St. David's Lutheran Church Cemetery in West Columbia, officiated by Mr. Mike Swearingen. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. this Tuesday evening, March 13, 2012, at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 520 Gervais St., Ste. 300, Columbia, SC 29201. Mr. Hutto died in his home on Monday, March 12, 2012, after a courageous battle with advanced heart failure. He was the son of the late Clayton and Mary B. Hutto. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran and a retiree of Carolina Eastman. Mr. Hutto was the owner of Auto Used Parts in Gaston. He was an avid follower of the Space Program attending many of the shuttle launches. He was a gentle giant who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Surviving are: his wife of 53 years, Glenda C. Hutto; daughters, Mandy Kruger (David) of Gaston and Bonnie Swearingen (Mike) of Lexington; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; three sisters, Verma Metts, Margie Neese and Marie Derrick; also his beloved dogs, Cooper, Little girl and Bingo. He was preceded in death by a son, Ricky Hutto; and two brothers. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Michael Foster, Providence Hospital, the 4th floor CICU staff, nurses and doctors of MUSC.
