Obituary of Mary Bashore

WEST COLUMBIA: Funeral service for Mary Ruth Brigman Bashore, 82, will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 22, 2012, at Laurel Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Steve Kittrell. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday evening at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Memorials may be made to Laurel Baptist Church, 2250 Pine Street, West Columbia, SC 29170, Chapin United Methodist Church, 415 Lexington Ave., Chapin, SC 29036, or Epworth Children's Home, P.O. Box 50466, Columbia, SC 29250. Mrs. Bashore, widow of John Alvin Krantz, Sr. and wife of Allen Bashore, went to be with the Lord, Monday, March 19, 2012. Born in Columbia, SC, she was a daughter of the late Jesse James Brigman and Lois Catherine Gardner Brigman. She was a graduate of Dreher High School, class of 1947, and Winthrop University, class of 1951. Mrs. Bashore was a member of Laurel Baptist Church and was a retired school teacher of Lexington District Two, Claude A. Taylor Elementary, where she taught for 27 years. She received the Claude A. Taylor Teacher of the Year, 1978-79. Survivors are: her loving husband, Allen Bashore of Chapin; daughter, Carol K. Kirkman (Mark) of Gaston; sons, John Alvin Krantz, Jr. "Johnny" (Debbie) and James Rodney Krantz (Tammy) of West Columbia; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Mrs. Bashore was preceded in death by her son, Joseph Michael Vinson and a brother, James Wilbert Brigman. Mrs. Bashore's family would like to thank the caring staff of National Health Care and Caris Health Care.
