Obituary of Robert Cockrell

Robert Earl Cockrell passed away March 22, 2012. He was the son of Fletcher C. and Beulah Witt Cockrell. Born in Saluda County, South Carolina March 26, 1930. Upon graduating from Hollywood High School he became a Member of the South Carolina Highway Patrol, serving until he was called to serve in the Marines during the Korean Conflict. Upon discharge he rejoined the Highway Patrol serving for 33 years until retiring as a Lieutenant. Surviving is his wife Vera Kathryn Horton Cockrell; sisters: Geneva Shuler (Ernest) of Wagener, Emma Julia Teasley (James) of Greenville; brother: Marvin L. Cockrell of San Pedro, California. Surviving also are nieces: Anastasia Bell, Jean Parker (Carl), Kathy Garcia (Phillip), and Patricia McClintock; and nephews: David Evans, Wayne Teasley (Nancy), and Donald Cockrell. He was predeceased by sisters: Ann C. Evans of Florence, and an infant sister; Brothers: Herman V. Cockrell of Saluda, Harold B. Cockrell of Greenville, Wilbur V. Cockrell of Saluda, Clyde E. Cockrell of Geneva, New York, and Horace Cockrell of Saluda; and a nephew, Ray Shuler. Funeral services will be held at Greenlawn Funeral Home, Leesburg Road on Monday, March 26, 2012 at 2:00 pm. Friends may call from 1pm until the hour of the service Monday at Greenlawn Funeral Home. Pastors of Incarnation Lutheran Church, of which he was a long time member, will officiate. The family invites the South Carolina Highway Patrol to be honorary pallbearers. Private burial will immediately follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of ones? choice, or to Incarnation Lutheran Church, 3005 Devine Street, Columbia, SC 29205.
