Obituary of George Vanco

PELION: Memorial service for George Edward Vanco, Jr., 74, will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, March 30, 2012, in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, officiated by Chaplain Charles Pollock. The family will receive friends from 5 until 6 p.m. prior to service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101. Mr. Vanco passed away Monday, March 26, 2012. Born in Bridgeport, CT, he was a son of the late George Edward Vanco and Dorothy Johnson Vanco. He was retired from C.R. Miles Construction Company. While working for Fluor Daniel in West Virginia, he was a radio talk show host for community events. Mr. Vanco was a greeter for Wal-Mart for 5 years. He enjoyed fishing, flea markets, spending time with his grandchildren, trips to Tennessee and going to country and blue grass shows. Surviving are his loving wife, Kathern Carter Vanco of Pelion; daughters, Christine V. Clarke of Ellington, CT, Irene V. Collins, of Coldbrook, NY, Mary Raye of Cassatt, SC, Rhonda Vanco of Richmond, VA, Laurie Vanco of Las Vegas, NV, Amanda Messer of Chester, Lisa Sannicolas and Kimberly Freeman both of Columbia; sons, George Edward Vanco, III (Janet) of Red Bank, George Edward Vanco, III (Vicki) of Augusta, GA and James Martinez of Columbia; sisters, Eliza Rodrigues and Elaine Johnson both of Bridgeport, CT; brothers, Carl and Bobby Johnson of Bridgeport, CT; 28 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Mr. Vanco was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Arthur Johnson.
