Obituary of Walter Hite

Walter Herman Hite, Jr. West Columbia—Funeral services for Walter Herman Hite, Jr., 63, of West Columbia, will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, March 30, 2012 at Mount Tabor Lutheran Church. Officiating will be Rev. Ryan Lyles. Honorary Pallbearers will be from American Legion Post 79 and the Athletic Department of Airport High School. Interment will follow in Mount Tabor Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. Mr. Hite, passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 after a brief illness. Born on August 28, 1948 in Columbia, SC he was the son of the late Alice Derrick Hite and Walter H. Hite, Sr. He was a graduate of Brookland-Cayce High School, and had attended the University of South Carolina. Mr. Hite retired after nearly 20 years of self employment. Mr. Hite was a member of Mount Tabor Lutheran Church where he was involved in Boy Scouts attaining the rank of Eagle Scout and earning the "For God and Country" Award. He served in the United States Marine Corps. He volunteered with Airport High School Athletics for 30 years. He served as Finance Officer for West Columbia American Legion Post 79 and served as the Athletic Officer for the Post 79 baseball team. Mr. Hite is survived by his wife, Carolyn Hyatt Hite; mother-in-law, Alleen H. Hyatt; sister-in-law, Brenda L. Hyatt; aunts, cousins, and many friends. Memorials may be made in Mr. Hite's honor to Mount Tabor Lutheran Church, 1000 B Avenue, West Columbia, SC 29169.
