Obituary of Ray Ardis

LEXINGTON: Ray Ardis, 75, former mechanic and crane operator for Chubb Crane Company passed away Friday, March 30, 2012, at Lexington Medical Center, West Columbia, SC, following an extended illness. Born November 21, 1936, Pinewood, SC, Sumter County, he was the son of the late Randolp "Randall" Ardis and the late Sarah Ann Tabitha Ardis Griggs. Grandparents were Robert and Daisy Ardis and James Henry and Hattie Ardis. He is survived by his beloved wife of the home, Margaret "Peggy" Percival Broome Ardis, Lexington, SC; sons, Dale Steven Ardis and Dann Clayton (Vivian) Ardis both of Lexington, SC; a daughter, Sheila Harrison, "J", Effingham, SC, a step-daughter, Sheryl Threatt, Cassatt, SC, and a sweet and loving pet, Jenny. Grandchildren: Nicole Elise Ardis, Travis Ray Ardis, Jade Elizabeth Harrison and step-grandson, Cody A. Wilson; and 28 nieces and nephews. Sisters and brothers: Inez Jacobsen of Silruis, IL, Elise Ardis (Harrington) West Columbia, SC, Gerald "Jerry" Ardis, Lexington, SC, half-sister and half brothers: Hattie Pierson, Sumter, SC, Richard Ardis, Mayesville, SC, and William "Bill" Ardis, Greenwood, SC. Mr. Ardis was preceded in death by: step-son, John Robert "Bobby" Broome, sister, Thelma Ardis, brothers, Clarence, Charles, and Roger Ardis. Mr. Ardis attended Sumter schools and completed his education in Miami, FL. He was of the Christian faith believing in God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 1, 2012. From 2 until 3 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home, 4720 Augusta Rd., Lexington, SC. The service will follow at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Dave Phillips. Burial will follow at Pinewood Cemetery on Gordin St., Pinewood, SC. Serving as pallbearers will be Dale Ardis, Dann Ardis, J. Harrison, Travis Ardis, Tim McCord, Ronnie Threatt, Bill Porter, Arthur Clay and Mario Murria. Honorary pallbearer will be Nicole Ardis. In lieu of flowers it is respectfully requested that memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 3223 Sunset Blvd., West Columbia, SC, or to a charity of one's choice. The family would like to especially thank his caregiver, Arthur Clay, his brother, Jerry Ardis and his sister, Elise Ardis for their assistance given Ray during his extended illness. The love and support of the many other friends and relatives was of tremendous support and lovingly appreciated.
