Obituary of Bobby Whitten

WEST COLUMBIA—A casual celebration of life for Bobby Dean Whitten, 62, of West Columbia, will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, April 23, 2012 in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. Officiating will be Nephew James Whitten, Jr. Burial will follow in Celestial Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Darrell Shull, Frankie Whitten, Michael Whitten, Chris Whitten, Ron Whitten and Bobby Green. The family will receive friends from 1 - 3 p.m. Monday prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in Bobby's honor to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stoneridge Drive, Suite B, Columbia, SC 29210. Bobby Whitten passed away on April 20, 2012 after a long illness. He was a self-employed roofer for many years and a member of the First Baptist Church of West Columbia. He liked to shoot pool and bowl on the Wii. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Brenda; stepdaughter, Tereasa Smith; stepsons, Charles (Andy) Dinkins and Donald (Rink) Chase all of West Columbia; eleven beautiful grandchildren and five wonderful great-grandchildren; two brothers, Homer Whitten of Columbia and James Whitten of West Columbia; five sisters, Doris Reeves of Columbia, Nell Gainey of West Columbia, Vivian Shull, Betty Morris and Christine Thelen all of Lexington. He was preceded in death by his parents CL and Nettie Whitten and brothers, George, Earl, Wayne, and Billy and stepson, Marshall Dinkins.
