Obituary of Mary Barton

FOUNTAIN INN: Graveside service for Mary Chappelear Barton, 80, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2012, at Celestial Memorial Gardens, Lexington, SC. Honorary pallbearers will be Rev. Riley Huckaby (deceased), Danny Huckaby, Jerry Huckaby, Riley Huckaby, Jr., David E. Grobe, and Joel Leckie. Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 403 S. Weston St., Fountain Inn, SC 29644. Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington is assisting the family. Mrs. Barton, widow of Wade Goldsmith Barton, passed away Monday, April 23, 2012. Born in Bennettsville, SC, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin Henry Chappelear and Julia Mae Covington Chappelear. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Fountain Inn. Mrs. Barton worked with Richland County Health Dept. She was First Vice Regent with DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution); a member of the American Legion and served as former Sunday School Superintendent with Trinity United Methodist Church. Survivors are: daughters, Julie Smith (Richard A. Smith) of Simpsonville, and Mary Katherine Leckie of Florida; son, Wade Benjamin Barton (Nancy H. Barton) of Lexington; four grandchildren, Ryan Leckie (Christine) of Columbia, Lindsey Smith Datko, Tori Smith and Morgan Smith Balchin all of Greenville; two step-grandchildren, Jessica Yarborough and Ryan Dent of Lexington; five great grandchildren, Braden Datko, Emma Datko of Greenville, Bryson Leckie, Mia Leckie of Columbia and Macie Balchin of Greenville; first cousin raised in their home, James Covington of Columbia.
