Obituary of Dozier Shaw

Dozier Cleveland Shaw, Jr. West Columbia—Funeral services for Dozier Cleveland Shaw, Jr., 89, of West Columbia, will be held at 12 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, 2012 in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Officiating will be Rev. Steve Allen. Interment will follow at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Mr. Shaw, passed away on Sunday, April 29, 2012 after several months of declining health. Born January 4, 1923 in Roba, Al, he was the son of the late Dozier C. Shaw, Sr. and Lidie Davis Shaw. Mr. Shaw was a graduate of Union Springs (Alabama) High School and attended the University of Alabama for two years. He was an Army Veteran of World War II, serving in the Field Artillery, in the Aleutian Islands and in parts of Europe. Mr. Shaw worked for a number of years for Pilot Life Insurance and retired from Anchor Continental, Inc. Mr. Shaw was a long time member of Northside Baptist Church where he was a member of the Lovers of Christ Life Group. He was also a member of the Springdale Masonic Lodge 412. For three years, in the 1970's, he was a Cub Master for a pack sponsored by Providence Presbyterian Church in West Columbia. Surviving Mr. Shaw are his wife of 55 years, Jo Anne Holland Shaw; one son, Dozier C. Shaw III (Christy) of Cayce, SC; two grandchildren, Jacob Dozier Shaw and Holland Elizabeth Shaw; a brother, the Rev. Ashland D. Shaw (Margaret) of Boonville, IN; a sister-in-law, Ms. Bobbie Pike of Fort Davis, Alabama; and many loving and devoted nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Shaw of Fort Davis, Alabama.
